I don’t have a title for this post, so we’ll just leave that blank..mmkay?
In the last month I have moved, bought a car, bought a bed, got a job, and had a birthday. Yay me! Seriously though, I’ve been so busy. I’ll try and update this thing when I can, but we’ll see how things go. Thanks for all your prayers, I definitely need them.

I’ve Been Delinquent …
Posted on April 10, 2009 | Filed Under Uncategorized
With this here blog, but that’s pretty much normal for me.
I’m moving soon.
All the details are a little hazy still, but It looks like I’ll be moving nearby and living with some friends.
I’m doing something different so it’s all a little scary (more like terrifying actually).
Keep me in your prayers, yes?

Changes in the air…

Exciting. Scary. Needed. Soon.
In other news I joined the gym.
Spinning classes are awesome.
I really dislike touching gym equipment — it just seems so filthy.

It’s That Time of Year Again
Posted on March 9, 2009 | Filed Under Uncategorized
I have been here five years. I don’t really feel like making a big deal about it this year. Maybe because it reminds me that I’m getting older– which is not so fun anymore– or maybe because I didn’t do alot of the things I wanted to last year. Oh well. Cheers to me for staying in one place this long.

Gear Review: Headphones
Posted on February 22, 2009 | Filed Under Fitness, Rants and Raves, Run
The quest for the perfect headphones. No matter how many pairs I’ve gone through this “perfect” pair has continued to allude me. I like to take my Ipod along with me when I run. Audio books, music, word — I love it all.
Trying to find a pair of headphones that has good sound, is affordable, lasts longer than a couple months, and stays put on long runs has been no easy feat. I recently found myself (once again) in need of a new pair; so instead of going straight to a store to buy yet another pair that would disappoint me I did what any smart consumer would do — I googled “best headphones for running”. I got comfy and began to sift through the thousands of headphone reviews. Long story short: apparently, if you want a pair that works well, you need to be prepared to spend between $100 and 300 dollars … Yeah. Right. Obviously that doesn’t fit in with my budget, so I did my own research.
Here are some of my top hits and misses:
There were the Phillips inner ear buds that had great sound but got all sweaty and started falling out after a couple miles.
Bottom line: They lasted me through my half marathon training and for that I’m grateful. For casual listening they were great, however, as far as for running — I’ve had better.
Then there were the JVC Gummy ear buds:
They were cheap, and they stayed in okay. I’ve bought these twice now simply because I found them on sale, and it’s hard to turn down a decent sounding pair of headphones that only cost 6 bucks. These lasted me about 8 months of running in heat.
Bottom line: pretty good deal if you get them cheap.
My latest acquisition were these: Sony MDR-G57
They seemed like they would work good in theory, but as soon as I got them home and tried them on I realized they were so tight they were cutting off my circulation, and putting lots of pressure on my ears.
Bottom line: If you have a freakishly small head these might work for you. Everyone else: don’t bother.
After taking that pair back I ended up with this pair: Sony MDR-J11G
So far I’m digging them. They stay on well, they aren’t uncomfortable at all, they are sweat resistant (always a plus), and the clips are low enough so I can still wear sunglasses and a hat if I want (a problem I’ve had with other headphones). These bad-boys only set me back about $15.
Bottom line: I would recommend these.
Here are a few honorable/dishonorable mentions:
Altec Lansing Muzk: Boo on you! These over priced ear buds lasted me about 3 months of casual listening before they stopped working.
Skull Candy Ink’d: Awesome sound! Connie is loving these. I got them for around 10 bucks at Marshall’s.
Panasonic Shockwave: These had great sound and are water resistant. The only problem I found is they were a bit big for my ears and they fell out when I was running. I know others that really like them though, so they might be worth a shot, as they are cheap and pretty durable from what I hear.
Ipod ear buds: Need I say more?
Phillips Neckband headphones: These were the most uncomfortable and weird headphones I ever bought; I returned them two days later.
JVC Sport Clip Headphones: I got these on sale for like $6, and they lasted me almost a year. They had pretty decent sound. My one small beef with them would be that they were hard to wear with sunglasses. (I had to put the sunglasses over the clips which ended up hurting my ears.)
Well that about does it. Happy head phone hunting. If you find a pair that is truly awesome, please let me know!

The “No Training” Method
Posted on February 19, 2009 | Filed Under Fitness, Run
I’ve been throwing around the idea of running a 5k for the last couple of months. Because we’ve had quite a bit of rain (and due to my laziness/bad luck), I’ve been having a hard time getting any sort of running in.
(Fast forward to Monday):
I bundled up and headed out for a run. Considering the shape I’m in, (I haven’t been running faithfully for months/almost a year now), I felt confident that I’d be walking more than running… Surprise, surprise! I ran four miles at about an eight minute pace. (I have never run an eight minute pace for anything longer than maybe a mile.) I checked and rechecked the distance I ran — sure that it must be a mistake in my calculations – but nope, I actually did it. I know for some of you that probably doesn’t sound all that “wow”, but for me it was pretty cool considering that the last run I did I barely maintained a 9:40 pace for three miles.
I asked my favorite running guru, Simon, about it; here are his thoughts:
“Call that the “no training method”. Ha! It’s a phenomenon that can’t be explained. It’s funny how it works sometimes, but I also believe that it does have something to do with the mind as well. If I’m negative in any way it really affects my performance.”
Well I’m off to go lie around a bit. I feel the need to take this “no training” stuff to the next level. Heck, maybe next time I can run a 7:30 pace…

Training at Home
Posted on February 12, 2009 | Filed Under Fitness
http://www.figureathlete.com/free_online_article/training/hardcore_at_home_welcome_to_the_big_time
I like this article/training plan a lot; I think it has some great exercises in it. But, as with everything I post here, everything is subject to personal preference. Some people really don’t like weight training and they just want to run (I feel you…trust me), and that’s cool. By posting different articles and training methods I’m in no way saying that I feel these are the best or only ways to get a good workout. I’m personally trying to broaden my training horizons and become more fit and strong overall—this is why I switch up my workout regularly. If you have something you love doing, and it works well for you, keep doing it.
