Weekly Happenings
Posted on March 30, 2007 | Filed Under Misc
Kay well It’s been awhile since I posted something, so in order to keep my blog from become dead, in only its second month of life, here I am.
Some random snippets.
Lets see.. the Mavericks are number one and that makes me happy.
My dear friend Angel( the beautiful girl standing to the right of me, yes I know I look kind of scary but Angel looks good so just focus on her:) is having serious eye problems, so please keep her in your prayers.
” Supporting someone in prayer and the power of the keys, is the greatest act of love and sacrifice and will deliver to them miracles that will lighten there load, and give them the strength to fight on”.
The XD is about to launch. Yay!
Zero fixed my header.
I took a kickboxing class on Tuesday, and have been in pain ever since.
I’ve recently discovered that there are other black people in the Family besides dear Puddle of Mud, and myself, which I admit has been an inspiring revelation…ok well technically I knew there were more out there I just hadn’t really met them…anyway moving on.
Here are some links to some ab/core exercises I’ve been trying lately.
They seem to be working pretty well and I do feel like my waist/ab area area is getting stronger and hopefully flatter(always a score). I’m one of these people that can do hundreds of crunches and not feel a thing so I’m always on the lookout for new ab exercises. If any of you have any favorites please feel free to share.
Have a great weekend. I’m off to Mexico…….

Cute Kids
Posted on March 25, 2007 | Filed Under Misc
I came home yesterday to find a letter on my bed. I thought it was so cute I had to share it.
Dear Connie,
I really like you. I also really like food and you like food so I want to officially ask you if you would be my godmother? I know you’ll agree to my requests so this mainly a formality to score extra “brownie points”with you…and I don’t just mean figuratively either. Lets do dinner sometime.
Love in food always,
Your godson,
Chunky Monkey
Now the fact is that Devin, my baby, is only two so he didn’t write this, but it’s really the thought that counts(thanks Linda ![]()

Well alot of stuff has happened since I last blogged so I’ll catch you up on the highlights.
I moved rooms…. sort of.. I’m still camping out in Abi’s room right now, till the guys finish painting, but soon I will be in my new room, yay!
Angel and I took down the fixtures and masked the room so that the guys could paint. Linda decided to take some photos of us while we worked. She somehow convinced us that we looked incredibly sexy doing our manly jobs….right. Good stuff.
On to my next topic…Chuck
 I like Chuck.
 I like talking to Chuck.
Me: Chuck what is a gangbanger?
Chuck: Someone who bangs a whole gang
Me: Bangs as in..??
 Chuck: S-E-X
 Me: On purpose?
Chuck:(with a quizzical look on her face) Gee….. I hope so
I also like how she inspires Mike to paint beautiful murals on my new bedroom walls..unless you live around these parts don’t expect to understand.
I also like the mural, Mike did for Angel. In our house the kids salute Kenji while chanting “hail Leonidas”, so by default Angel is their Queen, and they have started to salute her as well. It’s pretty cute
Thank you Steve for helping me set up my new blog, I like it. Oh, and thanks Zero for helping me customize it.

NYC Ballet Workout
Posted on March 15, 2007 | Filed Under Rants and Raves
In light of my recent shin splints, which thankfully have pretty much healed. I’ve been doing a variety of cross-training things that I haven’t done in years, including workout videos like Tae Bo, The Firm, etc. Feeling bored, I ordered the NYC Ballet Workout 2
from Blockbuster online so I could add some variety to my workouts. Besides, what girl hasn’t wanted to be a ballerina at one point? I admit I had my dreams *sniff*; before some mean teen boys informed me that not only did I not have the body to be a ballerina, but that I was as clumsy as an ox.
Anyway moving on, I did the workout yesterday and it was good, a bit slow in parts. The floor exercises are similar to Pilates, in that it is slow controlled movements. The nice thing about it is that it’s toning without weights, which helps avoid adding bulk to your legs; something I have a major problem with. I did actually feel my abs, as well as my legs, burning at a few points in the workout (always a good sign). I think if you did it faithfully (in conjunction with some sort of cardio) it would tone your body as well as increase your flexibility and posture. Just thought I’d share my findings with you all out there in case you’re looking for something new to do for exercise.
Have fun, and remember point those toes!

Oh how the years go by
Posted on March 8, 2007 | Filed Under Misc
Three years ago on this very day Mike Picked me up at San Diego airport. Our first, of many conversations, was on the incredibly important topics of; how annoying it is when you go to the beach and get sand in your…..well you fill in the rest. We also talked about how the florescent lights at the office suck the pigment right out of your complexion leaving you with a flattering grey pallor. We also discussed in depth whether working at an office really gives you a flat butt(which I’m happy to say is not true). I think that was when I decided that Mike was the coolest guy ever.
Anyway, I really never thought I’d be here this long, but I tell ya, it’s been a great ride, wouldn’t change a thing. Enough sappiness I’m gonna post a few photo highlights from the last three years
Love you all thanks for making these last three years awesome. And a special shout out to my peeps(aka ALL my home members) but especially John,Abi, Mike, Nina, and Steve, who have put up with me for the full duration of my three years here, I’m sure it wasn’t easy..heh

If you look in my sidebar you’ll notice that I have only run 5 miles this week, which is not so much. However, I have a good reason. I have a nasty shin splint. In case your not sure exactly what a shin splint is I thought I’d post a brief description so you can all feel sorry for me, and so you can be careful so as not to get one yourself.
Shin Splints (Periostitis)
The term shin splints is a common misnomer in sports medicine. It does not imply a specific diagnosis, rather it is the symptom of pain over the front of the tibia bone. The pain from shin splints can be due to either problems of the muscles, the bone, or the attachment of the muscle to the bone. Therefore, ’shin splints’ is simply the name given
to pain over the front of the lower leg.
Causes
Inflammation of muscles, tendons and covering to bone (periosteum), usually due to an imbalance of the calf muscles (which pull the forefoot down) and the shin muscles (which pull the forefoot up). Shin splints are most common with marathon running, walking, or jogging, particularly on rough terrain.
Signs and symptoms
* Tenderness over the inside of the shin.
* Lower leg pain.
* Sometimes some swelling.
* Lumps and bumps over the bone.
* Pain when the toes or foot are bent downwards.
* A redness over the inside of the shin
Read the rest of the article here
How to Prevent
* Avoid hard and uneven surfaces–use soft
surfaces such as dirt or grass for jogging,
running and walking.
* Warm up adequately before exercise or
competition. Keep shins warm during exercise.
* Wear well-fitting shoes with good arch
support during physical activities.
So, the motto of the story is: be nice to your legs. You only have two of them and they have to last you a loooong time.
