Mascara

Alrighty here is that post I promised, Ruthie.
Recently Ruthie asked:
But I do know, that I would like to know about mascara. What’s the best one? How to avoid buying clumpy ones( I seem to always buy them that way)? How to avoid it becoming clumpy? How long should you keep them? And all the other things that I don’t know about.
I feel your pain Ruthie, I’ve gone through many a mascara, but thankfully I have some suggestions on a few that have served me, and my wallet well.
Here are my top three right now
This is probably my most favoritist mascara ever. It gives you thick dark curvy, LONG lashes with only one or two coats, only problem with this one, and it’s not necessarily a huge problem, is that the brush does tend to get ALOT of mascara on it so when you put it on it’s a bit overkill. In order to solve this problem just scrap the excess mascara on the rim of the bottle before you apply.
I tried this one a few months back and was pleasantly surprised. Goes on smooth, no clumps, lasts all day and makes my lashes curvy, thick, but not stiff. It’s perfect for everyday wear, but it also can be more intense if you add a couple coats. All and all it’s a great mascara, and for $4.99 it’s quite a steal.
Last but certainly not least is this one. Now I usually don’t buy CoverGirl, but after I did that ad for them they sent me some free goodies, which included this mascara. I wasn’t to excited to try it, but I am happy to report that it’s great. the rubber bristles insure that you get zero clumpage, and it goes on very easily. I recommend this one for every day wear but again to make it more intense just add another coat.
Now here are a couple I don’t recommend.
Maybeline Volume Express–the brush is way to big and I end up getting mascara everywhere.
Rimmel Lash Maxxx — The comb is prickly and ends up stinging my eyes
Ok and the last part of your question Ruthie, how long to keep Mascara?…That really depends on the brand, how much you use it, what kind of climate you live in, etc. A general rule though is 6 months, I’ve kept some for a year but I don’t really recommend that.
If your mascara starts to smell funny, or it’s consistency changes, get a new one. Mascara’s can go bad quite fast depending on the circumstances and you really don’t want to be putting rotten mascara on your eyes, it’s just an all around bad idea which can lead to blindness.
Hope this was a help.

Whoo hooo

I just got new shoes, and a heart rate monitor. Life is great and God is GOOD
I’m so inspired to go out for my run today. In other news I’m going to start training to run a 5k I’ll keep you up to date on the details.
Question for any of you runners out there: What do you run in? Any favorite running shoes? Personally I’m sold on Asics and right now I’m trying out the the Asics Gel Kinsei
and the Brooks Trance
I found them really cheap at a running expo and they are normally pretty expensive shoes, so I figured I’d give them shot.
I haven’t tried the Brooks yet, but the Asics I like, except that they gave me a nasty blister my first time in them(which I guess is normal for a new shoe, hopefully it will be better next time.) Anyway just curious to know what you guys run in, and what works for you and why
Update: The Brooks shoes are wonderful! Just enough cushion and stability, and they’re not heavy or bulky at all. I tried to run in the Asics again, and another blister just on a different part of my foot
not sure about these ones.
Ps: I haven’t forgotten about your post, Ruthie, it’s coming.

Praise Time, Skincare, and other Randomness
Posted on January 9, 2008 | Filed Under Misc, Pictures
So this year one of my goals(not resolutions) is to be more praiseful, so here’s a little gratitude attitude.
Thank you Jesus that…
As cold as my cubicle seems at least I have warm clothes unlike alot of people in the world
The electricity in my office will be back on soon
Our Schedulers (Paula and Weffie) are very good at what they do, and are very understanding and easy to work with…not to mention super cool ppl
I have two adorable godsons
I’m healthy
I’m able to run without pain
I have incredibly sweet and understanding co workers
I had a fun vacation(Thanks Maggie and Shem, and everyone else I hung out with and stayed with, for making it fun.)
And thats that. Now on to my skin care tips of the day.
1. Don’t pick or touch your face with dirty hands. Hand have TONS of germs on them which clog your pores, so just say no.
2. If you have blemish prone skin(like mine) make sure to rinse/ wash your face, after you workout especially if you had foundation on. When you sweat your pores open up making it easier for all the grime of the day to get in.
3. if you have oily/blemish prone skin ,change your pillowcase twice a week if possible, all the oil from your hair gets on your pillow every night which can cause breakouts.
Alright well thats all for now, next time we’ll tackle face washes for acne prone skin–what works and whats just not worth your money.
I’ll leave you with a pic of me and my godson Wes.

Well its a new year, yay! And with it comes resolutions…so being that I’m not one for making resolutions that I can’t keep, I decided to not make any this year. However there are some things I’d like to do more this year, one of those being to blog more. So here’s a little update on me.
I am..
Off vacation and getting back to work
Working on losing the holiday weight I put on(hee)
Trying to run faithfully every day
Thankful for all the wonderful friends I have
Missing Ruthie
Ok well now that thats out of the way someone asked me the other day what my top 10 makeup tips were, not that I’m any kind of expert, but it was flattering to say the least. So I thought I would share them here with my female blog readers, and to add a spin off of this, I’m thinking about making a weekly “beauty tips” posts. (I know I threw this idea around before, but with the new year here and resolutions being enacted, maybe I’ll actually get to it.)
So here’s the Top 10.
1. Light powder blue eye shadow is usually always a bad idea so use with extreme caution.
2. Don’t use a lip liner in the same shade of that cherry lipstick your wearing, the lipstick will fade leaving you with a nice red lip liner ring around your mouth, instead line your lips with a neutral liner so that way when the lipstick fades it won’t be so obvious.
3. If you want to make black eyeliner last longer and not smudge all under your eyes ,use a thin brush and go over the liner with a black powder shadow it helps dry it a bit and keeps it from smudging as much.
4. If you have a huge pimple and your having no luck covering it up here’s what you do. Wash your hands and take a tiny bit of chapstick on your finger and dab it on the pimple. Then take a dab of concealer either on your finger or on a brush and dab it on till its covered. See usually the pimple is dry which makes the concealer not really work so when you put the chapstick on first the concealer has something to adhere to.
5. Don’t ever put a color directly on your brow bone, beige, shimmery white and some pale pinks and golds are fine but anything other then that and it can look very 80ish.
6. To avoid that white face in pictures look that can come from certain foundations take a tiny bit of moisturizer and blend it along your jawline, this helps there not be such a noticeable difference between your face and your neck. Another tip on this one(trust me I have this problem a lot) is to take whatever pressed or loose powder you use on your face and blend some down to your neck.
7. If you don’t have time for mascara don’t put on eyeshadow especially if you have light eyelashes it ends up just look odd and can make your eyes look smaller. Instead line your eyes with a brown or black pencil to give your eyes a bit of definition.
8. Always wear sunscreen
9. Don’t apply blush in the hollows of your cheeks, only apply blush where you would naturally blush(I.E. the apples of your cheeks) for contouring of your face and to make your cheekbones stand out more use a matte bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks, down your nose and around your hairline and chin.
10. Take care of your skin, its the only skin you’ve got so make sure you keep it moisturized and clean as much as possible, never sleep with foundation on!
Kay well thats my two sense. If you have any questions or something you’d like to see me review let me know.
