I knew it….

I asked the awesome Libby for some advice on some leg toning exercises, and she suggested some pretty intense combinations of lunges and squats. Let me just say that I am SORE, as in lots and lots of pain. On the plus side, I think they’re working. My legs and my backside are feeling alot more toned and strong already, so thanks again Libby, and my new Brazilian bikini thanks you as well.
In other news I found out why I haven’t been running well lately…..Coffee. It pains me to say it, but it seems like my afternoon coffee was throwing off my groove. I ran today without having had it, and I had zero side stitches, zero waves of nausea, and a wonderful 3.5 mile run in about 30 minutes. Adios afternoon coffee, it’s been fun but running is more important, I’m sure you understand. Don’t worry though we’ll always have our mornings together, that will never change I assure you.
The funny thing is that when I was training for my half marathon, I remember having an afternoon coffee, a couple hours before my run, pretty much every day and it not bothering me at all, I guess things change. Now that I figured out what my problem is, I’m back to training for a 5k. I’ll keep you up to date on how it’s going, and when I choose which one I’m going to do.

I just got new shoes, and a heart rate monitor. Life is great and God is GOOD
I’m so inspired to go out for my run today. In other news I’m going to start training to run a 5k I’ll keep you up to date on the details.
Question for any of you runners out there: What do you run in? Any favorite running shoes? Personally I’m sold on Asics and right now I’m trying out the the Asics Gel Kinsei
and the Brooks Trance
I found them really cheap at a running expo and they are normally pretty expensive shoes, so I figured I’d give them shot.
I haven’t tried the Brooks yet, but the Asics I like, except that they gave me a nasty blister my first time in them(which I guess is normal for a new shoe, hopefully it will be better next time.) Anyway just curious to know what you guys run in, and what works for you and why
Update: The Brooks shoes are wonderful! Just enough cushion and stability, and they’re not heavy or bulky at all. I tried to run in the Asics again, and another blister just on a different part of my foot
not sure about these ones.
Ps: I haven’t forgotten about your post, Ruthie, it’s coming.

Getting Healthy
Posted on May 22, 2007 | Filed Under Run
Well My Wordstock sickness is coming to a close, thank the Lord! Which means its back to work for me! At the office I had so much work stacked up I could hardly see my desk, heh, just have to keep reminding myself to rest in the Lord.
Anyway I ran today, with Hiki, It was our XD bonding time. We ran about 4 miles, plus some bleachers(Hik is pretty much the best running partner EVER.) Was fun, and challenging it’s definitely going to take some time to get back in shape, but I’m happy. Sorry if this is boring but, this is a blog about running, and as such I need to start writing about it more. Cheers.

So is this a Running Blog, or What?
Posted on May 20, 2007 | Filed Under Run
It’s late I have a fever, and I can’t sleep. So I was pondering the fact that when I went to Wordstock people almost immediately recognized me as the girl who runs so she can eat. Heh. Thats all well and good and all except I haven’t been running much lately, which the dismal numbers in my sidebar remind me of, everytime I visit my blog.
And its embarassing when people ask you what your weekly mileage is these days, and you have to mumble out something lame like ten miles. Thing is I’ve been busy, and lazy, and….. yeah stupid excuses. Does this mean I have to change the name of my blog? I really like the name though.
Hmm I think I need to get back on the running bandwagon. I need to power through a ten miler to remind myself why I fell in love with running in the first place. That feeling you can only get when you push your body past its breaking point, when you feel like quiting after 5 miles, but you convince yourself to go just a little father.
The only thing better than that amazing runners high, is when you perservere in the Spirit, and reach that place, where the spiritual and physical world collide. Hasn’t happened to me that many times, but man when it does…amazing Just talking about it makes me wanna do it. Ok well thats what I’ll do. And I’ll tell you all about it. Wish me well, yes?
And Mike D, if you are reading this blog, your faithful running at Wordstock seriously convicted me, talk about dedication… sheesh.
Few of us know what we are capable of doing… we have never pushed ourselves hard enough to find out. - Alfred A. Montapert
PS: sorry if this post doesn’t make alot of sense, but in my defense I did tell you I was feverish.
One last thing. I am getting intense amounts of spam on this blog. Does anyone know how I can take care of this problem? it’s quite tiresome to have to delete 200 comments a day. Thanks.

Well I’m Happy
Posted on April 6, 2007 | Filed Under Run
My Certificate of Accomplishment for the Carlsbad Half Marathon finally came!
Just looking at it makes me want to do another one. I actually would like to do a full marathon, can’t decide which one yet. Only problem is with the XD and all the different training things happening this year, I’m just not sure I will have the time to commit to training for a half or full marathon. I’m told that the first race you run is to see if you can, the second one you actually want to do good in. So I figure my first one was hard enough to train for, and I was just training to make it through. To train to do well you have to work a bit harder….speedwork, hills, tempo runs, all things……ahem…I didn’t do last time. Anyway guess we’ll see, I’ll keep you posted.
For all you that haven’t seen my half marathon pictures you can find them here.
If you want to read how my race went you can go here.
In other news my back has been consistently sore for about a week and half now, and I’m starting to think It’s because I don’t stretch enough. I admit stretching is definitely the flossing of my fitness routine, it only gets done if I have tons of time, which I never seem to do. Anyone have any suggestions for a good, relaxing stretching routine or DVD?
Thats all for now. TGIF.

If you look in my sidebar you’ll notice that I have only run 5 miles this week, which is not so much. However, I have a good reason. I have a nasty shin splint. In case your not sure exactly what a shin splint is I thought I’d post a brief description so you can all feel sorry for me, and so you can be careful so as not to get one yourself.
Shin Splints (Periostitis)
The term shin splints is a common misnomer in sports medicine. It does not imply a specific diagnosis, rather it is the symptom of pain over the front of the tibia bone. The pain from shin splints can be due to either problems of the muscles, the bone, or the attachment of the muscle to the bone. Therefore, ’shin splints’ is simply the name given
to pain over the front of the lower leg.
Causes
Inflammation of muscles, tendons and covering to bone (periosteum), usually due to an imbalance of the calf muscles (which pull the forefoot down) and the shin muscles (which pull the forefoot up). Shin splints are most common with marathon running, walking, or jogging, particularly on rough terrain.
Signs and symptoms
* Tenderness over the inside of the shin.
* Lower leg pain.
* Sometimes some swelling.
* Lumps and bumps over the bone.
* Pain when the toes or foot are bent downwards.
* A redness over the inside of the shin
Read the rest of the article here
How to Prevent
* Avoid hard and uneven surfaces–use soft
surfaces such as dirt or grass for jogging,
running and walking.
* Warm up adequately before exercise or
competition. Keep shins warm during exercise.
* Wear well-fitting shoes with good arch
support during physical activities.
So, the motto of the story is: be nice to your legs. You only have two of them and they have to last you a loooong time.
